Just a reminder that our Pillows, Pancakes, and P.J.’sevent will be held on Monday Feb 6^th from 5:00-7:30. Pleasecome if possible, it helps our school earn extra reading minutes by thethousands. We need to read 930,000 minutes as a school to earn our movieday with a treat, along with our free dress day and pie throwing. Parentsare welcome to drop off their student or volunteer to stay and help, studentswill be put in a group with a group parent and rotate rooms and be readto. Please sign in and out in the elementary foyer. See youthere!!!

Levi Day

On Friday, February 3rd, wewill be having a levi/shirt day. This day is being sponsored by ourPOEC. The cost to wear levis and the shirt is $1.00. The moneyearned will be designated for field trips. Every grade will receive themoney that that grade earns for field trips. Please send yourstudent's $1.00 on Friday and we will collect the money in the classroom. We are asking the following:

1. Screen prints on shirts cannot display items that are illegal i.e.alcohol ads, tobacco ads, etc.

2. Shirts are appropriate to wear to school

3. Shirts can have game/team names, etc

4. Please no baggy/saggy pants

Monday,January 16 the lottery will be officially open for “new” students to be allowedinto the current lottery. Here is the link: https://lottery.academicawest.com/SyracuseArtsAcademy1213. Click on “New Application for 2012-2013”. Please complete theform. If you have friends, relatives, or acquaintances asking aboutgetting into the lottery, please share this link.

Fromthis lottery, we will offer an invitation to enroll in the school for the2012-2013 school year. The lottery information from last year has beendeleted. If they enrolled in the lottery last year and were notsuccessful, they need to enroll again.

Choir

Come sing in theholidays at the SAA elementary school choir concert on Wednesday, November 16thand Thursday, November 17th at 7pm in the elementary school gym. Doorswill open at 6:15 and tickets are 3 dollars a seat. 3 and under are free. There will be no pre-selling of tickets for this event. This is agreat opportunity to support your classmates and the POEC in their performingand fundraising efforts. In addition, it is a GREAT concert and FUN wayto start the holidays!

INFORMATION FOR PERFORMERS

Dress Rehearsal:Monday, November 14th from 3:30-4:30 in the elementary school gym.

School Assembly:Tuesday, November 15th at 2:30. Please have your child wear theirconcert dress to school. Audition choir please bring your clothing in abag to change in to. (Beginning choir and concert choir - blue pants/skirt andwhite polo/shirt. Audition choir - black pants, black short-sleevedt-shirt, dark shoes and socks)

Evening Performances: Wednesday and Thursday November 16th and 17th at 7pm in theelementary school gym. Please have your child at the school by 6:30 inconcert dress. Audition Choir will meet in the k-3 hallway, BeginningChoir will meet in the 4th grade hallway and Concert choir will meet on theelementary school stage. Doors will open at 6:15 and tickets are 3dollars a seat. 3 and under are free.

Our fundraiser concert is fastapproaching. The SAA POEC is featuring Moosebutter, a world renownedcomedy a cappella group. The proceeds of the ticket sales godirectly to our school, which makes this fundraiser such an incredibleopportunity for our students and their families. Moosebutter is aworld-renowned, award-winning comedy a cappella group that has performedthousands of shows over the past decade. International runners-up in theHarmony Sweepstakes vocal competition, their eclectic humor and tight acappella harmony has charmed audiences of all shapes and sizes. Parent Teacher conferences

Parents,

Please do not forget:
We will be having Parent Teacher conferences on October 5th and October 6th. We
will not be having kindergarten classes on those two days. School will not be held on
October 7th.
During the first of the school year, students in the jr.high school were allowed to come into the
building to pick up their younger siblings. We are asking that you have your students meet
outside of the building at this time. This will decrease the chaos in the hallways.
Our celebration of Veterans will be held on Veteran's Day, November 11th at 9:00 a.m.
We have a wonderful program planned for the Veterans who have served and are presently
serving. At this time we are asking for volunteers and for names of people that we can
honor. Please call the office at 801 779 2086 to let us know of names and addresses
so that we can personally invite them or if you are interested in volunteering.

Parent Teacher Lunch at Syracuse Arts Academy

We are starting to plan lunch and snacks for our teachers during Parent Teacher Conferences. Conference dates are Wednesday, October 5 and Thursday, October 6. Dollar Jean Day

Manyof you may have heard that we are trying out a new and exciting fundraiser thatnot only is fun for the kids, but benefits the POEC fundraising efforts. On Friday September 9th students may pay $1 in cash or $1 in box tops andblue jeans instead of their normal uniform pants. Because this is a trialrun to see how the students and react and behave with such an event we are onlyallowing jeans and all students must continue to wear their uniform dressshirt. On Thursday we will have volunteers outside of each school toallow students and parents to pre-purchase wrist bands for Friday's Dollar JeanDay. Any student that pre-purchases a wrist band will not need to worryabout getting one on Friday, but they must have the band on their wrist toqualify on Friday to wear jeans. On Friday we will again have even morevolunteers outside of each school to continue to collect dollars or $1 in boxtops. In order to speed things up outside the school we will be stampingkids hands to instead of putting on wrist bands. Students can begin topurchase the bands on Thursday or receive the stamp on Friday starting at 8amand we will continue to sell until the bell rings and the students are invitedinside. The POEC will be screening the students to make sure they arewearing the appropriate clothing before they enter the school. We arehoping that all students understand what the dress code will be and we needyour help to make sure they follow the guidelines. Students that are notwearing the appropriate jeans or do not have the $1 will be sent to the officeto call home.

Studentsare allowed to wear BLUE jeans. Not black, brown, white or any othercolor. Blue jeans must NOT be overly baggy, have holes in them or beconsidered as "skinny" jeans. If they would prefer not to paythe dollar then they can wear their normal school uniform. Teachers mayalso wear blue jeans by paying the dollar or giving a $1 in box tops.

Message from a member of the board of directors: As a reminder, individual

board members do not speak for the entire board. The board speaks through

meetings, votes, and policies. Each board member brings their own ideas and

opinions to the entire board. If you have thoughts or concerns, talking to

individual members of the board is a good starting place, but individuals do

not make policy decisions. All policy votes/decisions are advertised via

meeting agendas, talked about in a public meeting, and voted upon in a

public meeting, all following the Utah Public Meeting Act.

The board of director's meeting schedule for the 2011-2012 school year is

published on the SAA Website. All regular meetings are scheduled for 6pm.

Also posted on the website are meeting agendas (at least 24 hours before the

meeting) and meeting minutes.

The first board meeting for this school year is this Thursday, 1 September,

at 6 pm in the junior high auditorium. This is an open meeting and we

encourage parents to attend. Each meeting has a public comment time

scheduled on the agenda and individuals can sign up to speak to the board

during this time. A clip board for signing up is located on the table at

the front of the room. Again, if parents want to speak to the entire board,

this public comment time is available.

Individual board members (in case you don't know who they are) are listed on

the SAA Website with links available to send emails to each individual.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions or ideas.

SAA Elementary School Choir

It's not to late to join the SAA Elementary School Choir! The Beginning Choir (1-2 grades) will now be meeting after school on Fridays from 1:00-1:45 on the elementary school stage instead of during music time in the classroom. Concert Choir (3-6 grades) will also meet after school on Friday's from 1:00-1:45 in the elementary school gym. Please fill out a concert choir form found on the school website or at the volunteer desks and return it along with the choir dues (10 dollars per child, please make checks to SAA POEC) and turn them in on Friday during choir. Rehearsals will be every Friday that school is in session. Performances are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 16th and Thursday, Nov. 17th in the SAA elementary school gym beginning at 7pm (Tickets are 3 dollars per seat), with a dress rehearsal scheduled on Monday, Nov. 14th from 3:30-4:30. Choir

1st and 2nd grade choir begins this Friday!

We are so lucky to have two parent volunteers who at the last minute are

willing to step up and provide an after school choir for 1st and 2nd graders

like we have had in the past. Beginning choir (1st and 2nd grades) will

start this Friday after school on the SAA Elementary School Stage from

1:00-1:45 and will participate in the SAA Elementary School Choir Concerts

on November 15th and 16th. Any 1st and 2nd grader may participate in this

choir. Please send the Concert Choir form (found on the school website) and

the 10 dollar participation fee (make checks to SAA POEC) with your child to

choir this Friday.

We are still looking for some parents willing to come in and help with crowd

control on Fridays. This is a great way to get volunteer hours. Please note

that siblings or carpool children not participating in the choir are not

aloud to stay after school. Also, please pick up your children on time so

those that are volunteering can go home and be with their families. For
